Microtubules are major constituents of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton and provide the structural framework for intracellular transport, cell division and motility. Their dynamic assembly and disassembly are central hallmarks of cellular function. Both processes are regulated by the binding of GTP or GDP to tubulin dimers.
