Crystal Structure of channelrhodopsin 2 from LEXSY
Integral membrane proteins are notoriously hard to express in the common recombinant expression systems. However, in a recent Science paper the eukaryotic system LEXSY was used to produce channelrhodopsin (ChR2): both its native form and a slow-mutant were expressed with yields in the mg per litre range, the recombinant proteins were crystallized.
